The Hungarian Cultural Week in Montréal brings together Hungarian traditions, arts and cultural experiences in a vibrant international setting. The event creates an opportunity to discover the richness of Hungarian heritage and experience its many forms through a varied cultural program.
The connection between Budapest and Montréal provides a unique cultural perspective. The Hungarian Cultural Week offers a space where people with Hungarian roots, local communities and visitors can meet, exchange experiences and explore the connections between Hungarian culture and life in Montréal.
Culture can be experienced through music, visual arts, performances, traditions and community activities. The program highlights different aspects of Hungarian heritage while introducing audiences to artists, cultural expressions and customs that have been passed down through generations.
The Hungarian Cultural Week is an opportunity to celebrate cultural identity while sharing it with a wider audience. Through encounters, artistic events and traditional experiences, Budapest and Montréal become part of a cultural exchange that encourages curiosity, participation and appreciation for Hungarian heritage.
Classical music concert
The Hungarian Liszt Ferenc Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1963 by former students of the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest. During this nearly half of a century, the orchestra have built up an exceptional international reputation which has been underlined by concerts in more than fifty countries, including the Carnegie Hall in New York, the Sydney Opera House, and the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris.
Béla Bartók: The Wooden Prince
The classical music repertoire of the company, founded in 1987, consists of theatrical dances based on the works of composers such as Tchaikovsky, Bartók, Orff and the company’s varied repertoire also contains choreographies composed to musical montages.
Classical music concert
Alexandra Ruisz (b.1995) started to play the violin in early childhood. Thanks to her outstanding musical skills, she won a bronze medal at a prestigious national violin contest when she was nine.
Gergő Teleki was born in 1986 in Dunaföldvár, Hungary. At the age of five, he was performing in local concert halls. Gergő was recognized as a child prodigy.
Exhibition
In the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution, multiple events are already in progress from Halifax to Vancouver further emphasizing to Canada and the world what Hungary and Hungarians did for “freedom”. It is also our way to THANK Canada and its citizens for their open generosity towards accepting Hungarians.
Contemporary exhibition
This exhibition is showcasing the works of artists of Hungarian descent from across Canada. The project features a kaleidoscope of work from all disciplines, mediums and styles. Participants include internationally recognised artists and distinguished award-winning creators who have actively shaped the Canadian multicultural tapestry.
Contemporary circus
Recirquel Company was founded in Budapest in 2012 by director and choreographer Bence Vági. His vision for a new form of circus in Hungary drew on a long tradition. Hungarian classical circus dates from 1800, and Budapest was the site of one of the oldest circus schools in Europe, established in 1950.
